How To: Troubleshoot crashes, lags or minor issues

Last modified:

Restart the Game and Device

Restarting the game and the device can often resolve common issues by clearing temporary glitches or corrupted data. If a bug occurs, please try restarting both the game and device to see if the issue persists before proceeding with further troubleshooting. It is also recommended to make sure that your device is updated to the newest version of both OS and the drivers.

Verify Integrity of Game Files (Steam)

The best way to ensure that the game's files are correctly installed on your computer through Steam is to use the function to verify the integrity of the installation.

Step by Step

  1. Restart your computer and launch Steam.
  2. Right-click the game in your Library or click the gear icon on the game's Library page.
  3. Select Properties from the drop-down menu.
  4. Go to the Installed Files tab and click the Verify integrity of game files button.

Steam will then verify the game's files, which may take several minutes. If the above steps do not resolve the issue, try reinstalling the game completely.

Verify Integrity of Game Files (GOG)

If you are playing through GOG and encounter any issues, check if Repairing the game files does not solve the problem.

Step by Step

  1. Select the game in your library.
  2. Click the Customization button (to the right of the Play button) and choose Manage installation -> Verify / Repair.

If the above steps do not resolve the issue, try reinstalling the game completely.

Clear Local Save Files and Resync with Cloud (Xbox)

If your local save data is corrupted, deleting it and re-syncing with the cloud might fix the issue:

Step by Step

  1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide, then select My games & apps > See all > Games.
  2. Highlight the game, press the Menu button on your controller, and select Manage game and add-ons > Saved data.
  3. Select Delete all to remove the local save, then follow the prompts.
  4. Restart your Xbox by pressing and holding the Xbox button on your controller and selecting Restart console.

After restarting, your saved games will re-sync with the cloud automatically when connected to the Xbox service. Try playing the game again to see if the issue is resolved.

Troubleshoot Game Issues (PlayStation)

To troubleshoot game issues on PlayStation, we recommend taking the following steps.

Step by Step

  1. Ensure the game has fully downloaded and installed by highlighting the game, pressing the Options button, and selecting Information > Download Status.
  2. Verify the game is updated to the latest version by highlighting the game, pressing the Options button, and selecting Check for Update.
  3. Ensure your system software is up to date.
  4. Play the game from the beginning without an existing save to check for corrupted save data.
  5. Delete the game from your console and reinstall it.
  6. Back up your game data and reset your console. For PS5, go to System > System Software > Reset Options > Reset Your Console. For PS4, go to Settings > Initialization > Initialize PS4.

Please note that if issues persist across multiple games, there may be a problem with your console.
