Can't place a room next to another

I am unable to place a room next to this Skin Lab. It seems that because I placed one of the modules diagonally, the hit box is tell me that nothing can be placed there.

If I place the Skin Lab module perpendicular/parallel to the wall, I can place a new room just fine.
I also tried placing the new room, then turning the module diagonally, and it let me save the Skin Lab, but if I try to edit the new room, it won't let me because it says the Skin Lab module is in the way.
It might be worth noting that where the lone bench in this screenshot is, there was a resception desk next to it that got deleted because it was also in the way of the room. I also had a bug with this one where I had the double desk - I had paused the game, deleted it while a person was at the desk, and then the reception bots remained with animations, although the desk was gone and I could put items through them. I restarted the game and they disappeared.
