Undergames Question
Hi, after completing both campaigns i started the Undergames with Volta on master. The first map on master difficulty was drawn out, lasted really long and got annoying a little bit with all the enemy worker/creature spam everywhere but i managed to destroy the rival core shards. Now i don't know if this is intended or a bug, but during the game i lost one of my core shards and when i destroyed the final remaining enemy shard the game just continued on. No win or failure message.
Do i need to have both shards to win? That would suck if so, since it was a bloodbath on master and it's only the first mission in the Undergames. (shudders)
Also loading both an autosave or a normal save sometimes no ui appears and the game needs to be exited. This is in campaign saves.
Another thing I've observed is that the game writes a lot of data on a SSD. After a few new games or loading saves, I've had up to 14gb of data written. No big deal since new SSD's can handle this but it strikes me as interesting. It probably is a Unity thing since I've seen this in other games with this engine.
P.S
Do you want me to provide you with saves or log about the Undergames map?

Yeah please provide us with the busted save and a log from that session.
You talk about a large amount of data being written, that's not intended can you please try to find where the bulk of the 14GB is? A normal install should not be over 5-6GB. Have you downloaded a lot of maps? They are all saved in the game directory
Ok I'll upload saves before and after destroying the final shard.
About the data written, i don't mean installing the game or the game size. No, I'm referring to starting new missions, loading saves etc. After exiting a normal game session where i've played a couple of games or loaded saves i noticed the data write in a monitor program i use to monitor SSD usage. I guess it's the engine itself unpacking data in the background while the game is active.
Possibly, without knowing the directory its hard to stay what it is
Ok here is a save after the destruction of the shard and a log file, i had a manual save as well just before my final assault but i can't seem to find it. I'm on the GoG version.

Have you had a chance to look into this?
Also my question remains
Do i need to have both shards intact to win a game in the Undergames?
Not yet in depth, I'll try to get you an answer.
No you do not need to have both shards, this is broken
ok take your time, if i'm gonna try master difficulty for the rest of the Undergames it should work properly. :)
Just a small bump so you don't forget
Oh, and Happy New Year :D
Sorry, no idea why I left this hang. we are looking to do some bug fixing in bulk at a later date. I will add this to be reviewed for that patch
From memory, saving and reloading used to cause this bug. I thought that it had been fixed though.
To note: The AI actually plays badly in level 1 because it does not try to finish off players quickly nor is it always able to place defences adequately to defend its own shards. It can become a stalemate if certain AIs, such as Volta, are not finished off quickly.
"From memory, saving and reloading used to cause this bug. I thought that it had been fixed though."
- Well since i played on master difficulty i did reload a number of times, so that might have caused it?
"The AI actually plays badly in level 1 because it does not try to finish off players"
- Oh the AI on master is an unending tide :) , so no stalemate there. (I played as Volta and my opponents did everything to annihilate me so the only thing i found that works is to sacrifice one shard and fortify the other, hence the bug i reported. I finally managed to overtake after a while but no victory)
Yes, very possible. Maybe the save was corrupted in some way.
The AI used to have severe 'killer instinct issues', as I called them. It is no longer As bad at deciding when to attack but it is still more passive than I would like. Undergames falls down to map control and claiming speed a lot of the time. The AI's imp micromanagement can make it very hard, even with a better army, to actually push forward. I understand what you are saying though. Master difficulty is designed largely for players who are very experienced and know the game mechanics/overall strategies quite well. For instance, you can win levels just with spirit workers lol.
I'm terribly sorry that this happened, but I could not replicate the issue even after mixing save and load at different stage of the fight. If we find a replicable step with which I can see the bug myself, I'm happy to reopen the ticket and have another look. But at this stage I don't know what went wrong that could have corrupted the file / game state
Don't worry, the fact that you guys haven't forgotten about this proves your teams dedication which is awesome. When i played the game it was real hectic, getting attacked from both sides, loading reloading. Tried different approaches, with finally sacrificing one stone to hold on, maybe during all of that something glitched out. Thank you anyway for your efforts.
