Hi,

I was having problems with responsiveness while trying to play the game on my laptop computer so I reinstalled the game and now it will not fully load to the menu. The game appears to load normally, showing first the splash screen and then the loading screen, but then crashes to the desktop - the game appears to load about 20% along the progress bar.

I have restarted my computer, verified the game cache in Steam, reinstalled the game fully, reinstalled DirectX and updated my GPU drivers. Any advice you could provide would be appreciated.

Hmm that is odd. What are you videosettings? Does putting them lower help this?

Is it better if you use the hardware cursor by changing the hand of evil in the game settings?

Thank you Cian. Installing the older driver version has allowed me to run and play the game!

Unfortunately I am now having issues with a the in game performance. Despite maintaining a steady 30fps, there is a bit of lag in the cursor movement. When I physically move my mouse there is a noticeable delay in response on the screen. Oddly, this doesn't seem to impact mouse clicks in the same way. No other game seems to respond like this.

Any suggestions?

I've seen that others have mentioned that disabling fullscreen optimizations can help.
1) Open the WFTO game folder
2) Right click on WFTOGame.exe and select Properties
3) Click on the Compatibility tab
4) Check the box "Disable fullscreen optimizations"
5) Click OK.

Please give that a go and see if it helps. If not it would be good to try and downgrade your driver to version 391.35 and see if that helps

Hi Cian,

Thank you for responding. I have checked the steps you suggested and it has not changed things. .Net framework was up to date, Windows is fully up to date and disabling Windows Defender led to the same situation as before.

I uninstalled my GPU drivers and reinstalled them following the instructions at that link. Sadly, the game crashed in the same way after this.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Hey gritchie,

Please try these steps and let us know if it helps: Crash!

I'd also recommend using DDU and then installing new drivers again. https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html
