Hey,
I bought the whole package in the summer sale, and started to enjoy it. But it keeps crashing after ~5-10min. Always. It is the current version, and I thought a lot of fixes where issued with that. Also, after the crash (and even after I stopped the steam process), a process called "WFTOGame.x86_64" runs with about 4GB of memory in use. If start the game again, another process with the same name appears. What can I do to make this game run smoothly without crashing all the time. My stats are:

OS: Manjaro Linux x86_64
Kernel: 4.17.0-2-MANJARO
DE: KDE
WM: KWin
CPU: Intel i5-6600K (4) @ 4.100GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950
Memory: 15984MiB

What I tried so far:

Changing the resolution to the lowest and deactivated anti aliasing and the other option to recommended to deactivate. A crash log was not created, but a Player.log

Thanks for the help!

Since upgrading my computer from Ubuntu 16.04 to 18.04, WFTO crashes after some time playing a map. This happened both times I tried : once with a custom map (campaign from DK1) ; once in the HOG campaign.

Player.log

Game is crashing after some minutes

I have a new problem since todays patch 2.0.1

WftO is crashing every few minutes (10 minutes) randomly

I uploded my player.log

Thanks for the report. Unfortunately I'm not certain there is much we can actively do for you - We're not currently getting any other reports of crashes on other platforms and we've QA'd the game on our Linux PCs. My guess is that some combination of your OS/driver versions are incompatible. I would suggest ensuring you're up to date where you can

Its a default Kubuntu 18.04

with Intel i5 6600k

and a Nvidia Geforce 750 GTX

nothing special

default Kernel, default Nvidia driver (390)

as you suggested i updated my nvidia driver (its my only proprietary driver that can be updated)

by adding the graphics-drivers ppa

but without success

as this is the only game crashing

and i also had no problems before the patch 2.0.1
i don't think it's my pc ;-)

but i will try the 396 beta driver later

i did some further investigations

it seems the crashes depend on the build status of the dungeons

with more rooms and creatures the crashes are faster and faster

with other words

at the beginning you can play 20-30 minutes  without a crash

and with more build rooms and creatures inside the dungeons

the crashes come faster and faster

at the end i have crashes every 2-3 minutes

Thanks for the reply, I've marked this for further review by our QA Analyst.

I can confirm that we've had a few other reports from Linux users of random crashes since the 2.0.1 update. I cannot confirm if they're related at this time but we're investigating now.

If possible please include further crash logs as this may help our programmers to identify a related caused.

Cheers,

Lee

Hi Audiophiel,

Thanks for the report, I'm truly sorry to hear that your experiencing periodic crashes in the latest version of the game.

It's possible that the latest 2.0.1 version of the game is suffering from instability on Linux as this is not the only report which has appeared since this patch, but what is peculiar is that we didn't suffer from this issue when testing on our own Linux machine. In any case I apologise for this and can assure you that we're investigating this and will hopefully have answers for you in the near future.

In the meantime if you have any further details that you can provide us, ideally a save from a level where this is occurring that would be fantastic. Also if you could describe if there are any particular times when this starts to happen such, whether it's appearing on particular levels or after a certain length of gameplay or in a particular mode that would be great.

Thanks,

Lee

I'd love to provide save files, but I cannot find them anywhere. Could you provide me with the names or filetypes of WTFO save files so I can maybe search for them? The level is Justice in My Pet Dungeon, and it is saved as Pet1. Also, crash logs are/were not created. Meanwhile I will try to search for save files and play on different campaigns & maps to see.

Thanks for your reply.

edit: I played a bit on the original campaign, and on lvl 3 where you are supposed to defend against attacks, build lotus etc... it crashed after some time. I were not doing something specifically (eg opening the veins of evil or building a defense). After around 15 min it just suddenly crashed, opening no error message or generating a crash log. And it wasnt even lagging before the crash or showing a huge stress on the CPU. For me, the crashes get more common the longer into a game you are playing.

Installed the game on a macbook and the save files appeared in the standard save file directory, Steam Cloud helped me out as I could not find them using the standard linux directory. I have not launched the game in anyway or changed the files using the WTFO mac version. justice_20180624204001.metajustice_20180624204001

Hey audiophiel,

Does this still occur if you disable the Steam overlay? You can do so by completing the following steps:

  1. Select WFTO in your Steam library
  2. Right Click WFTO and select properties
  3. Uncheck "Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game"

Let us know if this helps so that we can work out the root cause
