Picked up units can be damaged

  • Sometimes, enemies shoot into thin air up to two times. The first time can be regarded as an attack started prior to picking up, but the second one can't be justified.
  • Regardless of the above, somehow units you pick up end up taking lethal damage and fall while you already hold them. You may then conveniently drop them onto a lair, unless all you got is a corpse of that poor beast. Note that the same can happen in DKII, but it correctly aborts picking the unit up, leaving it be wherever it was at, for comparison.

I tested this with the Huntress (which shoots projectiles as her primary attack) and she could only damage my picked up unit if the projectile hit, even when she shot before the unit was picked up.


Secondly, it's indeed annoying when a picked up unit dies which can happen with damage-over-time effects like fire. So maybe pause these effects while picked up?

I picked a stray worker before it could be instagibbed by a Huntress.

I had this once, too.


Its just a matter of picking up the unit in just the "right" second when something is thrown at it wich would kill it.


very, very hard to replicate (and much harder to get video footage of it)


but it can happen (very rarely)

Made sure Abilities can not applied on grabbed objects and conditions are frozen during grab time.
