Game hangs in the menu (macOS)

Rahvas 5 years ago updated by anonymous 5 years ago 10

The mouse cursor hangs in the start menu (where options and such can be found) for 5-10 seconds at a time. Freezing will not affect the background music.

My configuration is the following:

Late 2016 MacBook pro

 - Intel Core i7 running at 2,6 GHz

 - 16 GB RAM

 - Intel HD Graphics 530 (1536 MB)

 - Radeon Pro 460 (4096 MB)

I suspect that this is the same bug encountered in Windows machines where the game uses the inferior video card in the start menu. However, I was unable to solve this by changing the power settings from Energy Saver menu (automatic graphics switching) and the problem persists.

I tried to start the game and experienced similar freezing during the intro animation (even the sound stuttered) but the game itself seemed to be completely unaffected once it started.

One more piece of information: I'm running the latest macOS version (Sierra/10.12.6). I have also the latest GOG version of the game for macOS (1.6.3f1)

Hi Rahvas,

Would you mind uploading your output log, as that will be able to tell us whether or not the game is using the correct card.

This guide should help you find it.

Hello Andrew,

Thank you for a quick reply. Please find the Player.log attached.

Hey Rahvas,

Am I right in saying that the lag only occurs in the mainmenu? Does it persist if you attempt to launch the game via GOG Galaxy?

If you are having issues on a windows machine please send us the log from that computer.

Hello Cian,

You are correct but in addition to the main menu some sort of freezing also seemed to happen in the intro where the sound stuttered in similar fashion. However, no freezing of any kind was seen during the actual gameplay.

The mouse cursor freezes only in the main menu and not during the actual gameplay. The freezing seems to happen in very predictable intervals every ten seconds or so and lasts for approximately five to ten seconds and the cycle continues until I start the game.

Unfortunately I don't have GOG Galaxy installed. Hopefully GOG Galaxy is not a dependency for the game as it doesn't seem to allow non-systemwide installation and I try to contain such libraries (such as the .dylibs inside GOG Galaxy .pkg) accessible only for a single user as I have absolutely no clue what do they do and what kind of bugs they contain.

Sorry for the ambiguous description. I have installed the game only on the MacBook specified and I was referring to the known workaround for Windows machines: https://brightrockgames.userecho.com/topics/1096-missing-invisible-or-laggy-ui/

Galaxy is not a dependency. It looks like we are trying to connect to Galaxy every 10 seconds while in the mainmenu, we will prevent this from happening in the next update

Great – thank you for fantastic customer support!
