Consistent crashing.

Hey guys, just bought and installed the game through GOG.

I've had the game crash repeatedly but this last time it finally wrote a crash report and output log.
It happened throughout the first level and the second level now too. I've attempted all solutions for on my side before posting this including fixing known issues with windows 10 100% Disk usage spikes.

Would love to play the game but at the moment just doesn't want to work for more than a half hour at a time.

I've tried loading from saves and just fresh starting missions again and still occurs for both issues.

Thanks in advance and let me know any other information you need,

Dale.

Intel Core i7 6500 CPU @ 2.5GHZ

AMD Radeon R7 M440

And troubleshooting steps were:
Reducing texture quality to 3 as outlined in the crash troubleshooter

Verifying install with GOG Galaxy

Disabling antivirus

Hey Dale,

I'm sorry you're experiencing these crashes. It looks like it's DirectX related crash, could I get you to try and run the game in DirectX9 mode?

  1. Navigate to the WFTO install folder
  2. Find WFTOGame.exe and create a shortcut to it
  3. Right click on the shortcut and open properties
  4. Add -force-d3d9 to the end of the target field
  5. Open the game using this shortcut

Let me know if doing this improves the crashes for you.

Hey Cian,

Thank you for the speedy reply!
I completed the troubleshoot you described but when I open the shortcut, it loads to the menu and then the game starts intermittently disappearing/reappearing as if it is minimizing/maximising. The game doesn't crash just continues in this state.
Tried multiple times and that was the common error but also the UI will not appear or half appear on the screen.

Sometimes I would get in and open a save only for it to happen after a minute or two.

In that case could you please use Display Driver Uninstaller, found here: http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html to uninstall your drivers and the reinstall the latest version drivers for your GPU.

Once you have done that you should be able to progress without crashing, if not get back to us and we will see if there is another cause

Okay so used DDU and reinstalled latest driver software but still crashing but with no crash report any longer.

What do you recommend next?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I've just had a closer look at your GPU and it looks like it falls far below minimum spec. As you can see here http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=Radeon+R7+M440&id=3562 your GPU scores on average 908 points on the PassMark benchmark. Unfortunately War For the Overworld requires a minimum score of 1500 on the PassMark benchmark to run the game, this is likely why you are experiencing DirectX crashes as your GPU can't keep up.

There's nothing we can really do to fix it other than recommending that you attempt to run in the absolute lowest video settings. I hope that you can fix some way to enjoy the game, or an alternative machine to play on.

It may be worth checking if you are eligible for a refund as you won't be able to experience the game fully, we don't have any input in the refund process, so it is up to GOG/Steam to decide if they refund you.

Yes that was my fear after all the other avenues failed.

Thank you for taking the time to help me try and see if it will work anyway!

I don't believe GOG refunds based on not meeting benchmark requirements but that's okay because one day I'll have the power to play this and I'll have a key for it.

Thanks again Cian, have a good day.
