Saved game deleted when game crashes

Hello folks,

I'm having trouble with WFTO 1.4.2, Steam version, cloud saves enabled.

Game will usually crash every 15 to 20 minutes, forcing me to save my progress locally.

Once in every 5 or 6 saves, game will crash and my saved games will disappear.

They are not in the saved game folder and they do not come up when I run WFTO again and click on Load.

This only happens when I'm saving the game. When it crashes on the map saved games are ok.

I installed the game yesterday night and it's been happening ever since. I only play regular campaign (not the Heart of Gold campaign), and I've only played in campaign mode so far.

I validated the game installation on Steam and everything was fine.

I ran a CHKDSK on my hard disk and everything was fine.

An antivirus scan didn't show any problems.

Regretfully I can't upload saved games for obvious reasons (they got deleted).

Here is the log:

Output log

My specs:

CPU: Intel Core i3-4150 @ 3.50GHz

Motherboard: ASUS B85M-G with latest BIOS

RAM: 64GB DDR3 @ 1600MHz

Video card: NVIDIA GTX 750Ti with 2GB RAM (ASUS)

Hard disk: SATA-3 Hitachi 500GB 7200 RPMs

Sound device: Realtek ALC887-VD2 High Definition Audio CODEC (on motherboard)

Operating system: Windows 7 Professional edition SP-1 x86

Thanks a lot for your help and for making this game possible!

Regards,

Hi Guillermo,

Sorry to hear about your issues with the game. We wouldn't expect to see crashes at all, let alone as regularly as you're reporting them.

The top priority is identifying the cause of the crashes. Having looked into your output log I can't see anything indicative of a crash in it. Is this output log from a time when a crash occured?

Can you confirm the nature of the crash, as in how the crash occured. Did you receive an error message or was this a straight crash to desktop? What is happening at the time of the crashes.

Have you tried the solutions proposed in these topics: General Crash Troubleshooting, Startup Crashes.

Hope we can help you get into the game!

Yes, it is. I had another dig at that map after writing my first post. I saved towards the end of the level like the good little nerd I am, and sure enough, it crashed again while I was saving, taking with it the saved game.

I didn't play again with WFTO, and this is the log including last crash from yesterday night:

output_log.txt

Also, searching for the log, I realized I got plenty of crash dumps I can provide.

I'll hang them here in case you can do something with them:

2016-08-07_212736.zip

2016-08-08_051720.zip

2016-08-09_020306.zip

2016-08-10_014834.zip

2016-08-10_043440.zip

It must be noted that the game crashed many more times, but for some reason it didn't make a dump each time it crashed.

I get a message every time, as far as I can tell.

Most of the time it tells about helping by sending the crash dump to the devs.

I had 2 instances of crashes with different messages. Once it showed an empty window with an empty button, and the second instance it showed a message that said "Too many heaps".

I tried everything listed in those topics, except the USB headphones step, since I don't use USB sound devices.

Hi Guillermo,

Sorry for the late reply, I've not been well for the past few days and I've just taken a look at your output logs with one of our coders.

A recurring theme is we're seeing lots of Unity code being fired but none of ours however something that does seem to occur in all cases is the game being unable to access memory.

We suspect that your game might be running out of memory, something that can happen on large or busy maps if you're running on a low amount of RAM. When you listed your system specs It seemed that most of them seemed to be in order especially the incredible 64GB of RAM!

However I failed to notice initially that you're running a 32-bit Operating System unfortunately this means that your OS is only able to address 3.5GB of memory which could be the cause of your issues. Have you considered upgrading to a 64-bit OS?

As you can see if you're running a 32-bit OS and only 4GB (3.5 addressable) memory you're only hitting our very minimum spec requirements. System Requirements

Hope that helps,

Lee

I'm using most of that RAM with a RAM drive. I got just over 4GB free.

I'll give it a try with Windows 10 x64.

Thanks for the useful tip and get better soon!
